Most homeowners never think about what's happening in their attic. Out of sight, out of mind. But that's exactly where small problems quietly turn into expensive ones - and bathroom vent ductwork is one of the biggest culprits.
We got called out to a home in Sugar Hill for what seemed like a minor issue. The bathroom vent ductwork had come apart up in the attic. Not a glamorous job, but an important one. When that connection fails, moist air from your bathroom has nowhere to go except into your attic space. Over time, that trapped humidity leads to mold growth, wood rot, and insulation damage - none of which are cheap fixes.
Here's what we were working with - flexible duct that had separated from the vent collar running up through the roof deck. The connections weren't sealed properly, meaning warm, humid air was being dumped right into the attic instead of venting outside where it belongs. We got everything reconnected and sealed up tight so it functions the way it was designed to.
The fix itself isn't complicated, but finding it is half the battle. Most homeowners don't go crawling through their attic to inspect ductwork. That's why these kinds of issues can go unnoticed for months or even years. A little moisture buildup here and there doesn't seem like much until it absolutely is.
If something feels off in your home - a bathroom that stays humid, a musty smell you can't pin down, or an exhaust fan that doesn't seem to do much - it's worth having someone take a look. These are exactly the kinds of things we track down and get right.
