A clogged AC drain line is one of those issues that sneaks up on you. Your system keeps running, but water starts backing up - and if you ignore it long enough, you're looking at water damage, mold risk, and a shutdown you didn't plan for. We see this one a lot, especially during heavy-use stretches in the summer.

Here's what happens: over time, algae, dirt, and debris build up inside the condensate drain line. It's slow at first, then it gets bad fast. The drain line pulls moisture out of your home as part of the cooling process, and when it can't drain properly, that moisture has nowhere to go. That's when the headaches start.

When we got into this one, the blockage was visible right at the drain fitting - dark buildup packed into the line. We cleared it out and used a wet-vac pump to pull the clog through from the outside, which gets the job done more thoroughly than just flushing from the inside. From there, we also checked the condensate safety switch - a Rectorseal Safe-T Switch - to make sure it was functioning correctly. That switch exists to shut the system down if the drain line backs up again, which protects against overflow and potential water damage.

Catching a clogged drain line early is almost always cheaper and easier than dealing with the damage a backed-up line can cause. It's the kind of thing that gets overlooked until something goes wrong - and regular AC maintenance is exactly how you stay ahead of it. We handle all of this as part of our residential HVAC services in Alpharetta and the surrounding areas.
