A brand-new system getting knocked out by a power surge is more common than most people think. The equipment itself might be fine, but one bad electrical event can fry the control board - and suddenly the whole system goes dark. That's exactly what we were dealing with here in Roswell.

The control board is basically the brain of your HVAC system. It tells the furnace when to fire, when to run the blower, how to communicate with the thermostat - all of it. When a surge takes it out, nothing works the way it should. The system might not respond at all, or it might behave erratically with no clear explanation.

We pulled the damaged board out and swapped in a new one. Once everything was reconnected and powered back up, the indicator light on the new board lit up solid - a good sign that the board was reading the system correctly and ready to operate. That little red LED is one of the first things we look for after a board replacement. It confirms communication is happening the way it should.

This kind of repair is a good reminder that age isn't the only thing that puts HVAC equipment at risk. Even a system that was just installed can take a hit from an electrical issue. Surge protection for your HVAC equipment is always worth considering if you haven't looked into it. We handle this type of diagnostic and repair work regularly, and it's something we factor into furnace maintenance visits as well.

If your system stopped responding after a storm or a power fluctuation, it's worth having someone take a look at the control board before assuming something bigger is wrong. A lot of times, that's exactly where the problem is hiding.
